ALBANUS PHILLIPS, SR.
A. Albanus Phillips, Sr., 81 years of age, of Fishing Creek, MD died Tuesday evening, November 1, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on April 24, 1930 at Hoopers Island, MD, he was the son of the late Arthur W. Phillips and Ethel Matilda Phillips.
Albanus, as he was known, was a graduate of Hoopers Island High School.
In 1949 he married the former Sara L. Parks.
Albanus worked for the Dorcehster County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff and retired after twenty five years of service.
Albanus had been a member of the Riverside Wesleyan Church. He was a member and past president of the Hoopers Island Fire Department and member of the American Legion Post #91, Cambridge.
Albanus was a waterman and loved to fish. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years Sara Phillips of Fishing Creek, MD; four children Glen A. Phillips of West Virginia, Martha A. Willey and her husband Andrew of Crapo, MD, Betty Jane Elliott of Church Creek, MD, Arthur A. Phillips, Jr. of Fishing Creek, MD; a sister Audrey Adams of Salisbury, MD; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son Terry Lee Phillips and a sister Artha Parker.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4th at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Chuck Hudson, Pastor of Riverside Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
Pallbearers will be Art Phillips III, Barry Phillips, David Elliott, Eddie Hall, Andrew Willey, Jr. and Jonathan Willey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Ruark, Adrian Hanson, John Fetcho, Jimmy Phillips, Jr. and Andrew Willey, Sr.
