Albert L. “Bert” Pennypacker, 90, of Salisbury, Maryland died peacefully Tuesday morning, February 23, 2016 at his home with his wife and daughters by his side.
Born on October 21, 1925 in Dorchester County, Maryland he was the son of the late Harman and Lillian Kilmon Pennypacker.
Bert graduated from East New Market High School and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was Tail Gunner in a B-24 Liberator as part of the 9th Fighter Squadron in the Western Pacific. Bert was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank as Staff SGT.
On April 26, 1970 he married the former Rebecca Windsor and they made their home in East New Market, MD before later moving to Salisbury.
Bert worked with the State Highway Administration and retired after 32 years of service. He then worked on the Ocean City Beach Replenishment Project in 1988-1989 and then went on to be the Park Manager for 17 years at Ocean City Isle of Wight.
He was past member of the East New Market Volunteer Fire Company, current member of the Salisbury American Legion and lifetime member of the Salisbury VFW and Cambridge Elks Lodge.
Bert enjoyed metal detecting, cooking, fishing and boating. He was a talented furniture maker and had a great love of animals. His humble spirit and helping hand will be missed immensely.
Surviving him besides his wife Becky are daughters Janet Jones (J.R.) of Salisbury, MD and Pamela LeCompte of Easton, MD; grandchildren Craig Harper, Morgan Cadell, Abigail Rickwood and Elizabeth Firth; great granddaughter Kortlynn Harper; a special niece Nancy Pennypacker Howard (Ronnie); a nephew and several nieces.
Preceding him in death were two brothers Ralph Pennypacker and Norman Pennypacker.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 beginning 12:00 noon at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Hurlock, MD with military honors. Officiating will be David Tolley.
