ALDA LOUISE MURPHY
Alda Louise Murphy, age 87, of Bishops Head, MD, died Tuesday morning, March 24, 2009 at Dorchester General Hospital.
Born on April 27, 1921 in Toddville, Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles G. Meredith and Etta S. Tall Meredith.
She attended Toddville School and graduated from Crapo High School in 1938.
On September 25, 1940 she married J. Franklin Murphy. He died on October 20, 1984.
Mrs. Murphy was a long-time member of Zion United Methodist Church in Toddville.
Together, she and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in Bishops Head and then the Goose Creek Seafood Plant in Toddville, MD.
Mrs. Murphy was an avid reader and enjoyed being with her family and friends.
Surviving is her daughter Alice Faye Murphy of Bishops Head, MD who has been a wonderful care giver for the last several years staying with her even in the hospital to the very end. She is also survived by her son Phil Murphy and his wife of Grasonville, MD; two grandsons Christopher Lee Murphy of Grasonville, MD and Jason Chad Murphy of Hawaii; a great-grandson Jacob of ElPaso, TX; a sister-in-law Laura Ann Harding and her husband Reese of Wilmington, DE; a brother-in-law Reginald Murphy and his wife Phyllis of Cambridge, MD; a sister-in-law Audrey Murphy of Toddville, MD; a nephew Allan Meredith and his wife Mollye of Cambridge, MD; and many good friends in Bishops Head, Wingate, Toddville and Crocheron, MD.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was her brother Charles Meredith and nephew Roy Meredith.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, March 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. David L. Kreek. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be William “Snooks” Windsor, Dell Pritchett, Allen Elzey, Chris Murphy, Jason Murphy and Richard “Dickie” Dawson.
