Alice Hughes

Alice Bryan Hughes, 81, of East New Market, Maryland passed away February 14, 2015 at UMSMC at Easton.
Born June 4, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Norma Creighton and William Jennings Bryan.
Upon graduating from school she married Herbert (Hub) M. Hughes, Sr. on July 5, 1950. Alice and Hub enjoyed many things together, gospel and country music and watching movies. Their family was always of most importance. Alice was a beautiful woman, always enjoyed looking and dressing her best. For most of their life they made their home in Andrews. Together they enjoyed over 62 years of marriage. They were members of Wesley Chapel Church where Alice had taught Sunday school. Alice was devastated with the passing of Hub on March 24, 2012.
In earlier years Alice worked on the water with her husband. Later she worked as a Home Health Aide at Eastern Shore Hospital Center. She was very proud when she became a licensed medicine aide at the Cambridge House Nursing Home. Alice was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Moose Lodge #1211.
Alice always enjoyed helping people. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All will miss her dearly.
Surviving are her three children, Herbert M. Hughes, Jr. and wife Kathy of Belair, MD, Darlene Ausmussen of East New Market, MD and Debbie Lewis of Hurlock, MD; a brother William J. Bryan and wife Sylvia of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters Norma VanSchaik of Cambridge and JoAnn Bryan of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Brian Hughes, David Hughes, Leon Lewis, Jr. and Levin Lewis, Sr.; great-grandchildren Levin Lewis, Jr. and Luke Brian Hughes; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a sister Catherine Kruger and brothers Jacob Bryan and Harvey Bryan.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 beginning 1:00 p.m at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High St., Cambridge, MD. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Pastor Richard Prahl will officiate. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Hughes, David Hughes, Leon Lewis, Jr., Levin Lewis, Sr., Norval Pritchett and Vince Morris.
