Allen E. Fitzhugh, 77, retired Cambridge businessman and sportsman passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Genesis Health Care-The Pines, Easton.
Born March 4, 1938, he was a son of the late W. Louise McCready Fitzhugh and Elmer B. Fitzhugh of Church Creek.
After graduating from Cambridge High School with the Class of 1956 he attended the then Salisbury State Teachers College. After returning to Cambridge, Allen worked and managed the Cambridge Tractor for Henry Thomas from 1965 to 1974. In 1974 he bought the business and became the sole proprietor. He owned and operated Cambridge Tractor until his retirement at age 65.
Allen was an avid sportsman. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors. His passion was hunting, mostly bird hunting and especially for quail. For many years he had owned hunting dogs. Allen always looked forward to getting out in the fields with his hunting buddies and especially with his close friend Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr.
Allen was a lifetime member of the Elks, member of Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, Dorchester Historical Society, South Dorchester Folk Museum and the Cambridge Yacht Club.
Surviving is his brother Emory Fitzhugh and wife Sharon of Woolford; special niece Erika Walbridge and husband Jason; special cousins Jean Sneed and husband Carroll, Joann Wilson and husband Richard, Tom Brannock and wife Debbie; the family of the late Doris Thomas which he considered as his family and a few additional cousins.
Allen is also survived by lifetime friend Tom Collins; business friends Lewis Stoms, Scotty MacGlashan and William Harper; friends Mildred Phillips, Shelley Smith and Don Rollyson.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were uncles Wilson Fitzhugh, John McCready and Leroy McCready; aunts Cecil Gray, Cecilia Hughes, Norma lee Brannock, Marie McVey, Etzel McCready, Clara White, Marguerite Gerardi; friends Jim Davidson and Myron Durham and his longtime companion Doris Thomas.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 beginning 1:00 pm at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr.
