ANNA MARY DOWDY

Anna Mary Dowdy, age 95, of East New Market, MD, died Tuesday evening, January 6, 2009 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, MD.

Born on December 10, 1913 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Fisher and Bessie McNally Fisher.

On December 10, 1932 she married Alonzo Dowdy. He died on August 19. 1958.

Miss Mary, as she was known, worked for many years at Hutzler’s Department Store in downtown Baltimore and was a corset specialist.

Miss Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurlock, MD, where she was also a member of the Nifty Fifty Ladies Group.

Miss Mary enjoyed watching the hummingbirds from her deck. She was a member of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are a daughter Beatrice ElDoris Graham of East New Market, MD; grandchildren Brian Butcher, Sr. and his wife Christy of East New Market; Robert Butcher and his wife Jill of Baltimore, MD; great-grandchildren Lauren Butcher, Brian Butcher, Jr., and Brandon Martin; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are a brother James Fisher

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 301 Poplar St., Hurlock, MD where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Lee Hughart, Pastor.

Expressions of sympathy may be made by making memorial offerings in Mrs. Dowdy’s memory to the Dorchester Humane Society, 4930 Bucktown Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613.
