Annita Imogene Applegarth Young, of Mamaroneck, passed away November 9, 2014 at age 87. Annita was born May 21, 1927 in Cambridge, MD to Harold Gregory and Edith Imogene Applegarth. A devoted homemaker and caretaker, she is survived by her beloved children, Christopher Young (Catherine), Frederick Young (Karen) and Stephanie Young, eight grandchildren, her brother Charles Applegarth (Marie), and their children. She is predeceased by her brother, Harold Pierre Applegarth. Annita’s funeral mass was held on November 15, 2014 in Scarsdale, New York at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church.
Annita went to Mount Saint Agnes in Baltimore, and then to the University of Notre Dame of Maryland. She lived in Baltimore, MD, in Virginia, and in Illinois, as well as the on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and New York. Annita was continuously inquisitive about the world and its beauty, instilling that wonder and curiosity in her children and grandchildren. Annita enjoyed gardening, sailing, being with people, loved the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and truly appreciated being a part of her grandchildren’s lives. Deeply loved, Annita will be very much missed by family and friends.
Annita will be interred at St Mary’s Star of the Sea RC Church in Golden Hill, MD on January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Father William Lawler will officiate the committal service. For those wishing to make a donation as a remembrance, Annita was a life member of the Star of the Sea Golden Hill Foundation, Inc., Post Office Box 187, Fishing Creek, MD 21634, a small church serving a rural community on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
