Barbara Jean Travers

Barbara Jean Travers, 71, of Fishing Creek, Maryland passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 20, 2024 at her home with her family at her side.

Born on December 10, 1952 in Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Grover Corkran and Norma Donovan Corkran.

Barbara married Richard W. Travers on September 10, 1970 and they made their home in Fishing Creek. Together they raised two sons Richard Jr. and Robert Travers.

She was a hard worker owning her own workboat. Barbara loved working on the water and crabbing in the summertime by herself. In the winter she would oyster with her husband Richard. She loved to cook and this past year with her illness, she still found the strength to cook Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. She enjoyed listening to music, especially Loretta Lynn’s country songs. Barbara also enjoyed crafts with painting different things. She loved her family and will truly be missed by all.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years Richard; two sons Richard W. Travers, Jr. and his fiancé Trina McDaniel and her daughter Melody, Robert W. Travers and his companion Nasherra Newman; grandchildren Richard W. Travers, III and Brandon Travers; great grandson Nathan W. Travers; brother Ricky Corkran and all the friends that helped take care of her through her illness.

Preceded in her death besides her parents were two sisters, Ruth Ann Corkran and Linda Faulkner; a brother Grover Corkran, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A. Cambridge, MD beginning 1:00 pm with Pastor Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Dorchester Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Richard W. Travers, III, Brandon L. Travers, Steve Faulkner, Steve Faulkner, Jr., Christopher Faulkner and Arthur Phillips.
