Betty Lois Wroten Willey, 76, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday morning, May 24th at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.
Betty was born March 25, 1938 at Andrews, MD. She was the daughter of the late Marguerite Wroten Pohl.
Raised by her grandparents, the late Norman and Maggie Wroten, she later moved to Cambridge to live with her mother and stepfather Henry Pohl.
She attended schools at South Dorchester.
Betty had worked at local sewing factories, Rob Roy and Joe Selig. Later she was employed at Airpax and then Black & Decker from where she retired. She also worked at Pleasant Day Adult Daycare.
Betty married Raymond D. Willey, Jr. (aka Nick) on her birthday, March 25, 1955 and together they enjoyed 59 years of marriage.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Dorchester Unit #91, AARP and the Dorchester Farm Bureau. She was an avid gardener, she was especially proud of her flowers and many stopped by to see her beautiful garden.
Betty is survived by her husband Raymond (Nick) Willey, Jr.; one daughter Linda Jean Blaney and husband Fred of Delmar, MD; two sons William Howard Willey of Preston, MD and David Carroll Willey and wife Linda of Hurlock, MD; three grandchildren Adam Paul Blaney and wife Dana of Delmar, Del, Amanda Lynn Plotts and husband Kevin of Salisbury, MD and Stephen Paul Willey of Goldsboro, MD; one great grandson Asher Paul Blaney of Delmar, Del and another to be born in July, Grayson Blane Plotts.
Also surviving her is an uncle George Wroten (JoAnn) of Cambridge; cousin Kay Bradshaw of Golden Hill; half-brother Morris Pohl (Joyce) of Cambridge; sister-in-law Mary Lou Pohl of Easton; brother-in-laws Larry Wayne Willey, Gary Mace Willey (Janet) and Robert James Willey (Bonnie) all of Cambridge; several nieces, nephews and a special friend, Gloria Hickman of Trappe.
In addition to her mother, step-father and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law Raymond and Elvia Willey; an aunt Norma Lee Newcomb (LeRoy); an uncle David Wroten who was killed in World War II; half-brother Wm. (Skip) Pohl; two sister-in-laws Beverly W. Holley (Joe)and Patricia Ann Rue-Cuthbertson (Harry & Alan).
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 beginning 1 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. Family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor George Wheatley, Jr. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
Serving as pallbearers will be Fred Blaney, Adam Blaney, Kevin Plotts, Phil Reed, Ed Phillips and Jeff Willey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Willey, Pat Larimore and Ronnie Gleocklevr.
In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be sent to American Legion Auxiliary Dorchester Unit #91, P.O. Box 733, Cambridge, MD 21613.
