Brent Robert Bailey, Sr., age 67, of Crapo, MD, passed at his home Sunday morning, March 21, 2010.
Born on November 5, 1942 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late George Cleveland Bailey and Marie Michovich Bailey.
On June 2, 1962 he married the former Patricia L. “Pat” Holmes.
Mr. Bailey served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged with the rank of Engineman Third Class. He served aboard the USS Abnaki (ATF-96), stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1960 to 1963.
In 1970 he and his family moved from Baltimore to lower Dorchester County and never looked back. In 1972 he moved to Barren Island for which his second son was named. Mr. Bailey was caretaker on the island for six years. He took great pride that he ferried his son across Tar Bay to school. In the summer Rebecca, Olivia, Emma and Jacob loved going crabbing with their Pop Pop.
Mr. Bailey was a member of the VFW Post 7460 and the American Legion Post 91. He had also been a member of Ducks Unlimited and ardent volunteer during the National Outdoor Show.
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 47 years Pat Bailey of Crapo, MD; two sons Brent Robert Bailey, Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Cambridge, MD and Baron George Bailey also of Cambridge, MD; a sister Doris Keller of North Carolina; five grandchildren Gini Marie Bailey, Rebecca Lynn Bailey, Olivia Lane Bailey, Emma Kate Bailey and Jacob Keegan Bailey.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was a sister Naomi Turner; a brother George Bradley; two brothers-in-law Charles Keller and George Turner.
Brent will be greatly missed and remembered for his love of life and family.
A Time of Reflection will be held on Friday, March 26th at 2:30 p.m. at the VFW Post 7460, Sandy Hill Rd., Cambridge, MD.
