Easton, Md. — Charlene Travers McWilliams, age 70, was called home Thursday morning, September 19, 2024 at the Easton Hospital where she was surrounded by her beloved family, friends and Pastor in a peaceful, loving process guiding her through her final moments.
Charlene's life is celebrated by her loving son Robert Henry McWilliams Jr., grandchildren Robert Ethan McWilliams, Elise Christine McWilliams, Evelyn Grace McWilliams, and Robert Elliott McWilliams of St. Michaels, and her two precious dogs Wyatt the papillon and Abby the pomeranian.
Born and raised in Cambridge MD, the daughter of the late June and William (Bill) R. Travers Sr., Charlene and her late husband Robert Henry McWilliams Sr. shared an unbreakable bond of 42 years of marriage before his passing in 2016.
Together they shared a passion for accessible children’s health care, and through their philanthropic support of Shriners Hospital they aided several children in receiving life altering medical attention that otherwise may not have been possible.
A proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 16 years, Charlene enjoyed close camaraderie and the group’s work devoted to charity, truth and loving kindness.
Charlene gave over 20 years of service to her community in Cambridge through her career at the Dorchester County Circuit Court as the judicial courtroom clerk, aiding in the complex judicial process by always going the extra mile to make difficult times more navigable for her community members needing the help.
In retirement Charlene relocated to Easton near her son and his family, living happily in her Easton Club Community home with her dogs, visiting loved ones, and long-time caregivers.
Charlene remained in touch with friends and family, never missing a moment to celebrate those around her with gestures of kindness, thoughtful words, and her consistent signature generosity. Her younger days included beloved family outings across the Eastern shore and vacations together exploring fun destinations with her late husband and son.
Her recent years blossomed with experiences visiting with friends and family, honoring special occasions, sharing in beautiful moments and home cooked meals all together. Charlene was dedicated to her grandchildren and relished in spending time with them at the St. Michaels farm, watching them play sports and be active with keen interest in their development, always finding ways to show her unconditional love and pride in them, often with thoughtful and timely gifts showing her close attention to each grandchild’s own unique interests.
Charlene’s son Robbie knew his mother as a haven in his life, steadfast in her loyalty and support of him throughout the years across both the challenges and the victories. Charlene was loved and cherished by all who will remember her, and while her transition to her time with her Lord brings longing from those she’s left behind, the love and joy of her memory remains as constant and tireless as the love and joy she provided on earth.
Special thanks to family friends Garrett & Caitlin Gilman and Charlene’s expert caregiving staff Vontiva, Donna, and Teresa for their incredible commitment and generous attention in their work providing paramount end of life care, making her last days as comfortable as possible.
