Charles Brannock

Charles Robert “Bob” Brannock, 70, of Cambridge, Maryland, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore after a short illness. He was born on July 24, 1943 in Cambridge, Maryland, the son of the late Thomas Stuart Brannock and M. Normalee Brannock. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961. Bob continued his education with an Associate’s Degree from Potomac State College in West Virginia, a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master’s Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He worked for 40 years as a Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Maryland, having retired in 2005.
Following his retirement, he began his second career as a “Professional Volunteer” at the YMCA of Dorchester County. He worked tirelessly, investing thousands of hours of sweat equity improving the facility and fixing equipment. His dedication to the “Y” was an extension of his passion for physical fitness. Bob attended the “Y” on a daily basis for exercise and strength training, even as Parkinson’s Disease began to take its toll. Until declining health forced him to stop, he was an avid sailor, bike rider and rower.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melanie Malkus Brannock; three daughters, Leeanne Young (John), Mindy Smith and Shay Smith; seven grandchildren, Ashley Young, John Lee Young, Brooke Miller, Ian Young, Jerry Carmine, Shawn Carmine and Ethan Carmine; one brother, Thomas Brannock and two nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at noon at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Whitehall Road, Cambridge, Maryland. Pastor Dale Krotee will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Bob are encouraged to make a donation to the YMCA of Dorchester County, 201 Talbot Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613.
