Charlotte Ruth (Payne) Hearne, 83, of Seaford, Delaware passed away peacefully at Tidal Health Nanticoke in Seaford, Delaware on Tuesday April 30, 2024.
Charlotte was born on November 15, 1940 in Caroline county to the late Everett Cannon Payne and Velma Hercelia Cohee. She attended North Dorchester High School and spent her early years in Dorchester County. In later years she resided in Delaware. Charlotte often described herself as an “independent, strong, single woman” and proved that as she lived her life to the fullest. She would maintain an immaculate home, perform maintenance on her car and for years volunteer at local hospitals. She received many awards for her years of outstanding service.
Always a hard worker at any job she might hold, she also expanded her education to include becoming a licensed phlebotomist and a masseuse as well as taking courses in practical nursing.
With Charlotte’s passing a truly kind heart has stopped beating as she will be remembered for her generosity. Throughout her life, she repeatedly gave to her family by lending a hand and bestowing gifts. She would often send cards to family members and provide items they could utilize. She was the epitome of a true “giver”.
Besides her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by an older brother, Russell Wheedleton and sister, Doris Smith. Additionally, preceding her in death were brothers-in-law James “Jimmy” Turpin, Harry “Bondy” Lauck, and Elwood Smith.
Left to mourn her passing are sisters Onita Lauck and Patsy Turpin, brother Glen Payne and sister-in-law Connie Payne. She is also survived by nephews Donald Richard Lauck, “G.A.” Payne, “J.T.” Turpin, Marty Smith and Mark Smith. Surviving nieces are Cheryl Lauck, Kim White, Valerie Adkins, Ashley Eberspacher, Dawn Cox, Melissa Gibbons, and Kay Wyatt. A special niece, Donna Cohee provided care and support to Charlotte during her final days. The family is grateful for the comfort she provided Charlotte. Other survivors include several great nieces and nephews as well as great great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and inurnment will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Cemetery 4856 Skinners Run Road, Hurlock, MD.
