Charlotte H Willey, of Bucktown, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Cambridge, on March 30, 1932, to Charles and Helen Handley. She graduated from Cambridge High School; class of 1950. She married Elmer L Willey on June 9, 1950 and together they had three children. In addition to her parents, two brothers and a sister, she was predeceased by her husband Elmer in 2022, after 70 years together. Their daughter Carolyn died in 2011. She is survived by a son Robert L Willey (Ann) and a daughter Dianne Kahl, 6 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Charlotte was raised in Caines Ditch until the late 1930s, when a fire destroyed their home and they moved to what became the family farm in Jacktown. In addition to raising their three children, throughout her life she worked as a telephone operator and in party plan sales of clothing, handbags, jewelry, etc – finishing her “career” as a private sitter for the elderly. At age 78, in preparation for her 60th high school reunion, when asked “what are you doing now”? – she answered ”I take care of old people”. She had many interests; among them – quilting, gardening, painting, horses and raising Monarch butterflies. But her greatest calling, all her life, was to serve the Lord and spread the word of God’s love for all.
A funeral service will be held at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, in Cambridge, on Sunday, April 14, 2024. The family will receive guests beginning at 12 noon with the service starting promptly at 1pm. Interment will be private.
Pallbearers will be her grandson Jason Willey and grandsons-in-law Drew White, Denny Todd, Zac Pick, Jerry McGinnes and Kyle McGinnis. Honorary pallbearers are Frank and Mike Knauer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901 - to support Alzheimer and dementia research.
