“Cy” Pritchett, 85, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Mallard Bay Care Center.
Born January 14, 1929 in Bishops Head, Maryland, he was a son of the late Lois Murphy Pritchett and Carlton Pritchett. He attended local schools and graduated from Cambridge High School with the Class of 1946. On Valentine’s Day 1951, Cy enlisted with the U.S. Army. He served in Korea with the “B” Company, 19th Infantry and with the 24th Infantry Division. After his tour of duty he was honorably discharged January 29, 1953.
After returning from serving his country Cy began his career with Sears Roebuck. Many locals remember his smiling face and distinguished appearance at the downtown store where he was the Division Manager. Cy retired in September 1990 after 39 years.
After retiring he was a volunteer with the Salvation Army Store.
On March 16, 1955, Cy married the former Shirley Hurley. Together they enjoyed over 59 years of marriage.
Cy was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law and brother. Besides his family he loved to read. He was a regular at the library and enjoyed books on the military.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #91, VFW Post #7460 and past board member of Cambridge Yacht Club.
At Cy’s request services will be private. He will be interred in the family plot at Dorchester Memorial Park. Rev. Delmer Willey will officiate.
Surviving him is his wife Shirley; son Jeffrey S. Pritchett and his wife Cory of Cambridge; sister Kaye P. Jones of Alexandria, VA; brother C. Ray Pritchett, Jr. and wife Janice of Salisbury, MD; along with nieces and nephews.
