Dolores Abbott

Dolores V. Abbott, 77, of Church Creek passed away Saturday evening July 17, 2021 at her home with her family beside her after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Crisfield on March 13, 1944 she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Louise Hall Tolley. Dolores grew up on Hoopers Island. She enjoyed days on the work boat with her father and liked helping her mother with yard sales. She attended the local schools and South Dorchester High. After high school she attended Del Mar Va Beauty Academy and started a career as a cosmetologist. Dolores worked as a beautician for 55 plus years. She had been a member of Riverside Wesleyan Church her entire life.

Throughout her life her family was always most important and influential to her. Her grandmother was an inspiration as one who never complained and was always there for everyone, if not in person in her prayers. Older brother Sonny was a huge impact as he was always there to advise and help her. Her younger brother Jimmy was more like a son to her. Dolores considered her greatest accomplishments were raising her children and being a devoted sister. Her fondest memories were all the celebrations and gatherings spent for holidays, birthdays and just being together. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family, they were her reasons for living.

Dolores enjoyed going to shows in Pennsylvania with friends Eddie and Rebecca, liked all of Elvis’ movies, yard sales and looking at pictures of family and friends. She also had a huge heart for cats and dogs. She often said if she was wealthy she would save as many animals as she could.

Dolores’ wishes were to thank all that had played such an important role in her life. “Each of you carry on and always remember that family is the best friends you will ever have. Lean on each other and love them to the moon and back.”

Surviving is her husband of 32 years Ernie; daughters Melody Adkins (Gary), Laura Shockley (Jeff), Kathy Swann (Dickie); son Leon Shockey (Katie); grandchildren Brad Adkins, Zach Swann, Spencer Davidson, Tyler Shockley, Amie Adkins, Gabby Swann and Olivia Davidson: great-grandchildren Preston Adkins, Stella Stokes, Paxton Adkins and Russell Davidson; step-children Debbie Abbott and Chris Abbott; step-grandchildren Brittany Holden, Jake Hughes and Gracie Abbott; brother Sonny Hayman (Chotts); sister Janice Walls (Larry); aunts Dru Hall Brazier and Lucy Hall Fear (Richard); brother and sister -in-law Donnie and Kathy Abbott and sister in-law Wanda Tolley; and many other extended family members.
