Donald Wheeler Hoffman, 88, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, DE.

Born in Washington, D.C. on January 19, 1935, he was one of five children born to the late Edward Hoffman and Beulah Mae Wheeler Hoffman, whose families were from Crisfield, Maryland. He would later marry Catherine Pantos Hoffman, his beloved wife for over 25 years.

On July 7, 1954, Donald joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War.  Private Hoffman was a proud American, who truly loved his country and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1956. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals.

He worked for PEPCO in Prince George’s County, Maryland prior to his career with the U.S. Government. He was employed by the Architect of the Capitol in Washington, D.C as an Elevator Mechanic, working at the Rayburn Building until his retirement in 1987.

As a younger man in his 20’s, Donald raised other children in need. He worked 2 to 3 jobs at a time to support his family and the additional children. He had a heart to give and would sacrifice his own needs in order to meet the needs of others. He had many special friends that he also helped.

Donald attended Jubilee Christian Fellowship Church in Cambridge. He was a born again Christian who loved his Lord. Donald was a hard worker and a giving person.  He was known for helping people in need and volunteered for CHEERS in Delaware, delivering meals to senior shut-ins and the poor for over 20 years.

Donald found great enjoyment being on the water and fishing. He also enjoyed singing, dancing, boxing, football and baseball. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. Donald will be dearly missed by the family he loved with all his heart. He was loved by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by two daughters Pamela (Kunz) Gabriel and Helen C. Hoffman, both of Easton, Maryland; grandchildren Jeremiah Kunz (Jessica) and Jenna Remenapp (Andrew); great grandchildren Abigail and Brody Kunz and Duke Remenapp and a special friend Ken Kunz.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were three brothers Paul, Mike and Jimmy Hoffman, a sister Delores (Dee Dee) Hoffman Osterhoudt, and his wife Catherine (Cathy).

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 beginning 11 a.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, Cambridge with Pastor George Wheatley, Jr. officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be held at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery (Hurlock), following the service at 1:00 p.m. with military honors in the chapel.
