Doris Murphy

Doris Frances Murphy, died at her home, Sunday, November 27, 2011.

Doris was born in Cambridge on August 23, 1933, the day the Hurricane of 1933 cut the inlet at Ocean City. She was the daughter of Dorsey J. and Frances Willey, and sister of William C. Willey.

Doris attended school in Cambridge and graduated nursing school at Eastern Shore Hospital Center in 1969. She retired from Eastern Shore State Hospital in 1977 with 31 years of service.

She married J. Monroe Murphy in 1970. Mr. Murphy died December 31, 1996.

Doris is survived by nephews Dorsey and William Willey and niece Karen Denford of the Baltimore area; and cousins Frances Phillips, Kendra Nichols, Frank Pohl, Morris Pohl and Randy Pohl of Cambridge and Sandy Roe of Chesapeake City. Doris will also be missed by longtime friend Kit Bradshaw.

Graveside services followed by inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3rd at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Doris’ memory to the Dorchester County Humane Society, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803 or to the charity of one’s choice.
