Dorothy Vincent

Dorothy Wilson Vincent, 90, of Cambridge, Maryland, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at home, cared for by her loving family and friends.

Born February 23, 1927 in Logan, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Rupert Morgan Wilson and Bess Rose Wilson. She was predeceased by her brother, R.M. Wilson, Jr.

After completing her early education in Logan, she entered Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. She studied for two years before transferring to Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. There she studied piano for two years before leaving in 1948 to marry William Gerald Vincent and moved to Cambridge. They were married for sixty years until his death in 2009.

During her life in Cambridge she shared her love of music with many children and adults in the community by giving private piano lessons. At one point, she taught more than forty students individually per week.

An avid boater, she enjoyed cruising the Chesapeake Bay with her husband and the Rotary Power Squadron as well as vacationing in the Florida Keys with family and friends. Relationships formed through their love of boating and lasted for decades. She was also an avid bridge player, still finding time to participate in various clubs and community activities including those at the Cambridge Yacht Club, Dorchester Garden Club and the Cambridge Women’s Club. Her interest in genealogy led her to becoming a proud member of the D.A.R. During her retirement from teaching, she became interested in tax preparation and served the community multiple years volunteering by preparing tax forms at the Dorchester County Public Library.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to her caregivers and the staff of Comfort Keepers and Coastal Hospice.

Mrs. Vincent is survived by two daughters, Jean Vincent Bristor (C. Craig) of Lutherville and Catherine Vincent Mayer (Douglass M.) of Crofton; four grandchildren Allyson Bristor Brekke (Christopher M.), Andrew Craig Vincent Bristor (Aurora Cassells), Douglas Vincent Mayer (Allison Skipper), and Melissa Wright Mayer. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Vincent Arthur Brekke, Felicity Cassells Bristor and Ainsley Evelyn Mayer.
