Eastland M. Lewis, age 93, of Wingate, MD, died Tuesday morning, August 5, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge, MD.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Wingate, Dorchester County on May 15, 1915. Her father and mother were John Moore and Nancy Todd Moore.
On June 29, 1934 she married Captain Norris O. Lewis who was a skipjack captain. He died on January 10, 2004.
Mrs. Lewis was the secretary for Lewis Seafood Express which was her husband’s seafood transport business. She had also worked for a period of time for Powley’s Seafood and Tideland Seafood.
Mrs. Lewis liked to garden and cook. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and her home.
Surviving are six children Reginald D.Lewis and his wife Doris of Golden Hill, MD, Dorothy Shortall of Trappe, MD, Donald “Bud” Lewis and his wife Sherry of Elkton, MD, Carolyn Harvel and her husband Raymond of Commerce, GA, Sharon Prahl and her husband The Rev. Richard Prahl of Cambridge, MD, Doris Meekins and her husband Bruce of Wingate, MD; a sister Emma Arnie of Cambridge, MD; fifteen grandchildren Helen Peel, Nancy Blades, Susan Shimek, Martha Lewis, Tony Shortall, Pat Harvel, Kelly Harvel, Jen Vandiver, Sarah Meekins, Rachael Battaglia, Donnie Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Stephanie Deeter, Matthew Prahl, Katie Hill; twenty one great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was her son Owen Lewis and his wife Carolyn; several brothers and sisters; one deceased grandchild Timothy Shortall and one deceased great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 7th from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge, where the funeral will be held at 2 pm. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. David L. Kreek. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
