Eleanor Ruark

Eleanor Ruark, 90, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away on Monday September 28, 2015 at her home in Salisbury, Maryland, surrounded by her family. Born in the Bar Neck District of Dorchester County on August 19, 1925, Eleanor was the daughter of Brice and Gladys Marshall. Eleanor was a devoted member of Beckwith United Methodist Church, and later, Grace United Methodist Church, both in Dorchester County.
Eleanor grew up on a farm near Bar Neck with her parents and siblings during the Great Depression. She learned her work ethic and strong family values from her parents, along with her sisters, Mary Lee and Jean. Eleanor, Mary Lee, and Jean were best friends for life.
Eleanor worked for Mr. Bill Vincent and State Farm Insurance in Cambridge for many years, while raising her young family. Later she accepted a position at the Eastern Shore State Hospital where she retired.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years Harold Lawrence Ruark on March 18, 2015. Harold and Eleanor were truly a team throughout life, working with Harold’s boat building and wood working projects and raising their family. Eleanor was a guiding light, especially to her children.
She was also preceded in death by one of her sisters, Mary Lee Johnson.
Eleanor, or mom-mom, as she was known to all who loved her, is survived by her three adoring children, Thomas Harold Ruark and his wife Suzanne, Connie Lynn Ruark and her partner Claudia Nagle, of Salisbury, Maryland, and James Marshall Ruark and his wife Eileen, of Ocean City, Maryland. Mom-mom is also survived by five grandchildren, Kimberly Mihaly and her husband Eric, Mindy Myrick and her husband Lawton, Michael Ruark, Stacey Ruark, and Kaye Nagle-Wood, and three great grandchildren, Ryder Myrick, Wyatt Myrick, and Betsey Mihaly. Eleanor is also survived by her sister Jean McWilliams, two special nieces Donna Era and Debbie Wessels, a special grand-nephew Hunter Wessels, and two special family members Diane Foreman and Jessica Lewis. Besides her church, Eleanor’s passion was her family. Mom-mom will be missed by all.
