Ethel M. Jones, 90 years of age, formerly of Dorchester County, MD, presently of Denton, MD died October 27, 2015 at home with her family by her side.
Born on January 10, 1925 at Hoopers Island, Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Everett E. Booze and Ethel M. Creighton Booze.
Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Cambridge High School, Class of 1942. World War II was declared in her senior year and surviving members of her class still meet for lunch somewhere in Cambridge every other month.
On October 19, 1949, she married William D. “Lindy” Jones. He died on March 14, 1992.
Although born in Dorchester, she raised her family in Kent Island, Queen Anne’s county. Residents for over thirty years, they owned and operated William D. “Lindy” Jones and Sons Plumbing and Heating. While in business, they sponsored “Lindy’s Ladies” Softball Team of Kent Island, MD for many years which was truly a proud and rewarding experience. Before her death she lived on a farm in Caroline County.
Ethel was always proud to be a true Eastern Shore resident. Memories of her childhood on Hoopers Island was often a topic she would share with others. She decided to write a book, “To Hoopers Island with Love” so the memories would live on forever.
Surviving are her five beloved children Deborah Lynn Behlke (Bob), Winfield Scott “Rocky” Jones (Joanne), Tina Mears (John), Lindy James “Jay” Jones (Debra), Casey Everett Jones (Crystal); a sister Ruth Baker of Kent Island, MD; fifteen grandchildren Max and Cory Behlke, Amy Shepler (Matt), , Renoula Griffin (Matt), Nikki Jones, Jeremy Jones, Taylor Jones, Tim and Josh Mears, Andy Behlke, Brian Behlke (Jess), Katie Behlke, Zach, Casey and Jesse Jones, Falynn Breeding (Alex), Ashley Jones and Zach Dennis; six great-grandchildren Kaysen Behlke, Brody and Stella Shepler, Trent Jones, Aiden Gates and Xander Breeding.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a son William D. Jones, Jr. “Billy”, two brothers Luke Booze and Clarence Booze; and a grandson Billy Behlke.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 beginning 11 a.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge, MD. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
