Florence Anstine, 97, of Cambridge passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Cambridge on September 17, 1925 she was one of nine children of the late Howard Tildon and Carrie Robbins Willey. She attended the local schools and graduated from Cambridge High School with the Class of 1943.
Florence was a Secretary her entire working life. The day after her graduation she began her career at Phillips Packing Company in its main office. Later she went to work at Phillips Hardware office. After its’ closing she worked at Willey’s Appliances before going to the Municipal Utilities Commission as Executive Secretary. She retired from the MUC in 1994 after 23 years of service. Florence stated that she had loved each and every job that she had.
On June 23, 1945 she married Quitman Hurley Anstine. They were blessed with two children. Quitty passed away on June 23, 1968 leaving Florence as a young widow. Years later she met the second love of her life, Ron Ramia. They were a wonderful couple and enjoyed doing things together. They were engaged for many years prior to Ron’s passing in 1999.
Florence was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and had been active in the Jaycees-etts (wives of Jaycees) and was honored to be their first President. In her earlier years Florence loved to bowl, sing and dance. As she reflected on her life she said “my greatest love of all has always been my family”. A warm, caring and kind soul, she will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Surviving is her son Steve Anstine and wife Donna; daughter Carrie Hall and husband Robin; grandchildren Danielle Anstine-Hupke and husband Aaron, Brandon C. Hall and wife Jackie; great-grandchildren Madison Elizabeth Hall, Henry Robert Hall and Liam Stephen Hupke along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Florence in death besides her parents and husband are her siblings Myrtle Hurley, Wilsie Spedden, Evelyn Dean, Nettie Fleischman, Pearl Griffith, Calvin Willey, Raymond Willey and Gordy Willey. Also preceding in death is her special niece Shirley Pritchett and her husband Cy.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 beginning 1:00 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Bloodsworth.
Interment will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sonny Dorman, Donnie Spedden, Robin Hall, Joe Kincaid, Aaron Hupke and Brandon Hall.
