FLOYD A. McCRACKEN
Floyd Albert McCracken, age 76, of Oxford, MD, formerly of Trappe, MD, died on Sunday evening, March 16, 2008 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
Born on February 13, 1932 in Harmony, MD, he was the son of the late Arthur McCracken and Anna Marie Wilson McCracken.
Mr. McCracken was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1950.
On June 18, 1955 he married the former Margaret Austin Smith.
Mr. McCracken was a United States Army veteran being honorably discharged in 1962. During his military service, he served in Pikes Peak, Colorado and in Germany
For most of his working years, he was employed as a burner service mechanic for Southern States Cooperative in Easton, MD. He retired after 26 years of service.
Mr. McCracken was member of Trappe United Methodist Church, life member of Trappe Volunteer Fire Dept. having served as the longest consecutive President of the fire department , past president of Talbot County Fire and Rescue Association, and was a member of the Moose Lodge, 1520 Easton, MD.
His hobbies included gardening and stamp collecting. He was an avid reader and enjoyed socializing at Pops Market.
Surviving besides his wife Peggy McCracken of 52 years, Oxford, MD, is a son George McCracken of Trappe, MD, and his girlfriend Rita Neal a daughter Margaret Jane Yockey and her husband Sam of East New Market, MD, two sisters Irene Messick of Cambridge, MD, Emma Mae Davis of Harrington, DE and several nieces and nephews, and Erika Nelson whom he thought of as a granddaughter.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was a sister Leila Kotula and four brothers William “Junior” McCracken, Howard McCracken, Freddie McCracken and Robert McCracken, and a special aunt Bertha Davis.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening March 19, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. Funeral services will be held Thursday March 20, 2008 at 1 pm at the Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. with the Rev. Robert Hawkins officiating, assisted by the Rev. Nevin Crouse. Interment will follow at The Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD with Military Honors.
Pallbearers will be Mike Larrimore, Freddie McCracken Jr., Craig McCracken, Danny McCracken, Timmy Schwanniger, and Kenny Harding.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Trappe Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mr. McCracken’s memory to the Trappe Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 86, Trappe, MD
