Frances E. Fitzhugh, 76, of Church Creek, MD passed away Monday, September, 28, 2015 at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born in Vienna on December 16, 1938, she was one of two daughters of the late Addie Jones Oliphant and Russell Franklin Oliphant. She attended the local schools and graduated from North Dorchester High School with the class of 1956. On November 30, 1957 she became the bride of Ernest “Ernie” Levin Fitzhugh. They enjoyed almost 58 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed traveling, either in a vehicle or on motorcycles that they both loved. An avid animal lover, she was passionate about care and treatment of all animals.
Miss Frances, as she was affectionately known by the locals of Church Creek, served as its Postmaster for 30 years. She retired in 1997. After retiring she and Ernie enjoyed spending time at their second home in Sebring, Florida. She was a member of White Haven United Methodist Church, former member of Church Creek Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and the ASPCA.
Surviving besides her husband Ernie is a son Ernest L. Fitzhugh, Jr. and his wife Donna of Long Island, New York; daughter Kelly Fitzhugh of Church Creek; sister, Iris A. Mowbray of Cambridge; brother in law Carlton Fitzhugh and wife Helen of Sebring, Florida; sister in law Ruth Ann Andrews of Salisbury along with a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 beginning 1:00 p.m. at Old Trinity Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. A. Delmer Willey assisted by Rev. Dr. Robert Kirkley. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the cemetery.
