Gary O. Ainsworth, 72, of Preston, Maryland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the home of his niece.
Born on September 19, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Harry Ainsworth and Doris Carr Ainsworth. Gary graduated from Easton High School with the Class of 1969 where he enjoyed playing baseball and football. After high school he went on to attend Hotel/Motel Management School after which he worked and managed several hotels. After a successful career in Hotel Management, Gary then went to work for the Justice Department where he remained until his retirement in 2016.
Gary was a longtime member of the Easton Elks Lodge #1622 where he enjoyed spending time with friends and fellow members regularly, especially Friday evenings. His favorite pastime was spending time on the water in his boat “Wye Knott” which he kept at “The Lot” in Presquille. “The Lot” was his home away from home and he loved every minute spending time with his friends and fellow boating buddies.
If you knew Gary, you knew it was his way or the highway, but at the same time he had a very kind and giving heart when it came to his family and friends. Not to mention he was a lot fun to be around no matter how old or young.
Gary’s family and friends had many nicknames for him such as “GOA,” “GO,” “King Barbecue and “DH” and they will forever carry those memories in their hearts.
Surviving Gary is his companion Kelly Sheets of Preston; his brother Rocky Ainsworth of Florida; nieces Tracie Whiteley (Eddie) of East New Market, Alexa Brooks of Alabama, and nephew Jason Ainsworth of Florida.
Preceding him in death besides his parents is a sister Lynn C. Whiteley and niece Michelle Ainsworth.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Mallard Bay Nursing home and caregiver Michelle Johnson for their professional and loving care provided to him.
A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at the Easton Elks Lodge #1622 on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 6pm to 9pm.
Arrangements entrusted to Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, Cambridge.
