It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Steven Cartwright, 65, on January 6th, 2025 in Cambridge, MD.
Gary was born on March 18, 1959 in Baltimore, MD to Olive McKenzie Cartwright and Roland Sidney Cartwright, who passed away before he was born. Gary grew up in Parkville, MD as the youngest of five children and spent most of his life in the surrounding Baltimore area. From a young age Gary was an entrepreneur, owning several successful construction companies throughout his life. He specialized in exterior restoration of high-rise and historical buildings and his completed projects can be found across the country.
He had a love for the outdoors. Gary was passionate about hunting, fishing, boating, and especially loved the Eastern Shore of Maryland. His favorite place to hunt was on Taylors Island, where he eventually moved full-time, and throughout the years he met some wonderful friends who became family. Florida has also always had a special place in Gary’s heart. He often talked about his favorite childhood memories of shelling in Marco Island and as an adult he frequently vacationed in Key West. Recently, when not on Taylors Island he was living part-time in Palm Coast, FL enjoying the warm weather and beaches with friends.
Gary is survived by his children, Christopher Cartwright (wife Kara), Kara Cartwright, and Teri Harrington; grandchildren, Lucas Cartwright and Jonas Harrington (wife Marie); siblings, Linda Henderson (husband Dave), Nancy Berry, and Gail Girard; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members who loved and adored him. He also leaves behind his beloved Doberman, Drake.
He is predeceased by his mother Olive; brother Kenneth Cartwright and brother-in-law John Matthews Manlich.
Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. To commemorate and remember him, a celebration of life will be hosted by his children at a later date this spring.
