Gary Adams LeCompte, Jr., 62, of Vienna, Maryland passed away at his home on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
Born on June 14, 1961 in Cambridge, Maryland, he was the son of the late Gary Adams LeCompte, Sr. and Doris Harding LeCompte.
He attended Vienna Primary School and graduated from North Dorchester High School with the class of 1979.
On October 30, 2014, Gary married the former Mary Errickson, and they made their home in the small close knit town of Vienna.
Gary was a hard worker and made a living working the waters of the Eastern Shore (and sometimes the Western Shore) chasing his catch in every nook and cranny he could find. Crabbing, tonging, fishing, no matter what, he was proud of his profession, working on his boats Highlander (later renamed Buddy Boy after his beloved dog) and Second Wind and being on the water searching for the next bigger than the last catch.
When it came to a man having friends, Gary had too many to count. You could always count on him telling a joke and then a smirk on his face would appear following the punch line. He leaves to cherish his memory by family and friends with a heavy heart, but Gary loved all of you and in return he knew you loved him. When you think of him, look up to the sky and give a smile because, please believe, Gary is laughing, smiling and tilting one back at you.
He is survived by his wife Mary and four-legged baby boys Buddy and Drake; sister Donna Lynn LeCompte of Hurlock, sister-in-law Randi Jones (Donald) of Cambridge, brother-in-law Butch Willoughby of Hurlock, nieces and nephews, Rusty Willoughby (Brittni), Kelli Helmer (R.J.), Bobbi Dust, Michael Bell Jr. (Missy), Brittney Medford (Shawn), Ashley Quicke (Matt), Megan Minton (Matt), Kara Jones and 16 great nieces and nephews. Gary is also survived by “sons of his heart” Jamie McFarlane, Neil Messick and many close friends.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was two sisters Kimberly LeCompte and Melissa (Missy) Willoughby.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 beginning 1:00 pm at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge with long- time friend Boo Powley officiating. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the Chapel of Ease Cemetery, Vienna.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gary’s name can be sent to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
