Grace Elaine Hicks

Grace Elaine Hicks, 90 of Cambridge, Maryland passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025 with her family by her side.

Born on December 30, 1934 in Huntington, Long Island New York, Lainey was the daughter of T. Walter Dormand & Grace (Brush) Dormand. The family moved to Cambridge, MD when Lainey was 9 years old. She graduated from Cambridge High School, class of 1952. She graduated from Rutgers University in 1956.

She worked for Hutzlers in Baltimore after graduation where she met her husband Ralph E. Hicks. They married in 1959 and spent over 65 years together.

Lainey taught for 30 years in Dorchester County schools. She was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church, also serving on the Church’s alter guild and bible study. She enjoyed all sports and was a Dorchester Recreation girl’s softball coach and later a league secretary.

She is survived by her husband Ralph and daughters Dr. Anne Hicks DVM and Lynn Lienemann. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren Katie Harmis, Ryan Lienemann, Chris Harmis and Dr. Grace Lienemann as well as her sister Elly Fry, Greg Fry and nephew Steven Fry.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Christ Episcopal Church, 601 Church Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 beginning 11 a.m. with Rev. Susan Leight officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
