Harry Wehr, III, 87, passed away on August 8, 2014 at Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge.
He was born on March 21, 1927, the son of the late Harry Wehr, Jr. and Alma Phillips Wehr. Harry attended Gilman School in Baltimore and graduated from The Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut. Afterwards he attended the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins University. Harry was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served two years in Korea obtaining the rank of Sgt. Major. Later he served in the Maryland National Guard with the 110th Field Artillery Unit.
Harry worked with his father at National Color Printing and later for Diamond International. He worked for St. Joe Container until he retired. Harry was a former member of the Baltimore Country Club, the Cambridge Country Club. Cambridge Yacht Club, Grand National Waterfowl Association, Ducks Unlimited, Dorchester County Historical Society and the Friends of the Dorchester County Public Library. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Cambridge.
Surviving is his wife of forty years Susan Bryan Wehr; his nephews James H.L. Chambers, III, Howard Wehr Chambers, Dr. Theodore Phillips Chambers and Oliver Walcott van den Berg. He is also survived by close cousins and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by his sister Alma Wehr van den Berg.
A memorial service celebrating Harry’s life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Cambridge on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 beginning at noon. There will be a visitation at 11:00 a.m. in Barber Hall. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert M. White.
