Helen “Nell” Boyle, age 94, of Cambridge, MD, died early Tuesday morning, January 19, 2010 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge.

Born on May 3, 1915 in Glasgow, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Jock McLeod and Elizabeth Murphy McLeod.

Mrs. Boyle was the wife of the late Owen Francis “Frank” Boyle who died on March 13, 1971.

Following her husband’s death, she helped with the family butcher shop business in Scotland. In 1987 she moved to Cambridge, MD and helped her family in the family business then known as the Blue Crab Restaurant.

Mrs. Boyle was a communicant of St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Cambridge, MD.

Mrs. Boyle kept herself physically fit with daily routines and walking. She liked knitting and cooking. “Nell”, as she was affectionately known was very proud of her family and enjoyed taking care of her home and family.

Surviving are six children Bernard Boyle of Glasgow, Scotland, Fran Strohmer of Cambridge, MD, Vivien Gwynn of Cambridge, MD, Tommy Boyle and his wife Sharon of Glasgow, Scotland, Gerry Boyle of Cambridge, MD and Mary Downey and her husband Michael Tilghman Downey of Cambridge, MD; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two brothers; one sister; and a son-in-law Bill Strohmer.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, January 21st at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday morning, January 22nd at St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Glasgow St. and Hambrooks Blvd., Cambridge at 10:00 a.m. The Mass will be concelebrated by The Rev. William Lawler and The Rev. Bruce Byrolly. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Church Cemetery, Church Creek, MD.

Pallbearers will be Gerry Boyle, Tommy Boyle, Bernard Boyle, Owen Strohmer, Steve Strohmer, Sean Gwynn, Michael Downey and Richard “Dickie” Messick.

Memorial offerings may be made in Mrs. Boyle’s memory to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613.
