Helen C. Dean Newell, 94, of Cambridge passed away Friday evening, September 19, 2014 at Chesapeake Woods Center.
Born August 1, 1920 she was a daughter of the late Hattie Dean and Irving Cannon, Sr.
For most of her adult life Helen was a homemaker. She had worked at Eastern Shore State Hospital Center in the dietary department. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Robin Hood Shop. Helen loved quilting, cooking and was well- known for her fabulous meatloaf. If you didn’t like meatloaf before, you would when you ate hers. Spending time with her family was one of her great joys. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Helen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving is her son Gilbert C. “Gibby” Dean and wife Penny of Hurlock; a sister Jean Hill of Salisbury; grandchildren Brett Dean and wife Kelley of Cambridge, Angie Dean of Secretary and Ashley Dean of Cambridge; great-grandchild Elizabeth Dean and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husbands was a son Reggie Dean; brother Irving Cannon, Jr.; sister Irene Hubbard.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 beginning 1:00 p.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge. The family will receive friends at the cemetery the hour prior to the service. Officiating the service will be Rev. Doug Ridley. Burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Helen’s memory can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
