HENRIETTA C. DASHIELL

Henrietta C. Dashiell, age 86, of Cambridge, MD, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital.

Born on May 14, 1921 in Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter of the late George Otis Dashiell, Sr. and Alma Corson Dashiell.

Henrietta was educated in Dorchester County and attended Chesapeake College.

Henrietta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of the Dr. Hines Bible Class.

In her earlier years, she had worked for her family’s newsstand business located on High Street for many years.

In 1973, she had worked for the Dorchester Senior Program through M.A.C. She then worked for the Delmarva Community Services Inc. in the Senior Program and retired in October of 2005 after thirty five years as an Administrative Assistant for the Senior Program.

Henrietta was very proud of her achievements with the Senior Olympics having received a gold medal for table tennis. She also placed in the long jump in 1999 for the category of Women 75 and Older at Disney World. She also competed in metered walks, runs and broad jumps. She won many ribbons and medals throughout the years and was proud to be one of only a few seniors from Dorchester County to enter the Senior Olympics every year.

Surviving is her dear friend Kaye Barrett with whom she lived with for several years; a nephew Edwin H. Dashiell; two great-nephews Charles Edwin Dashiell and Eric C. Dashiell, all of Falling Waters, W VA; sister-in-law Wally Dashiell of Stevensville, MD, and her many friends at Dorchester Community Services.

Preceding her in death besides her parents was a brother George Otis Dashiell, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25th, at Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD, where a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Douglas Ridley, Pastor. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Thorpe, Michael Foster, Jerome Stanley, Paul Kelley, Robert C. Kelley, Sr., Doug West, Edwin H. Dashiell, Charles Edwin Dashiell and Eric C. Dashiell.

Memorial offerings may be made in Henrietta’s memory to Dorchester Community Services, Inc., 450 Cambridge Beltway, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
