Herbert (Hub) McGlaughlin Hughes Sr., 84 of East New Market, Md, passed away March 24, 2012 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge.

Born on February 29, 1928 in Andrews, he was a son of the late Herman and Bertie McGlaughlin Hughes.

On July 5, 1950 Herbert married his wife of 62 yrs., the former Alice L. Bryan. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church.

After a brief tenure with Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Hub continued his love of working on the water for over forty years. The past sixteen years he had been employed by Warwick Behavior Health as a driver. He worked until his health forced him to retire February of this year.

Hub was a member of the Moose Lodge 1211 and the Maryland Waterman’s Association. Hub enjoyed going to the flea market on the weekend and taking his grandsons. He also enjoyed watching country and gospel music shows on TV with his wife Alice, but what Hub enjoyed most was to work.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, a son, Herbert Hughes Jr. and his wife Kathy of Bel Air; two daughters, Darlene Ausmussen and her husband Mickey of East New Market; Debbie Lewis and her husband Buddy of Hurlock; a sister Irene Gootee of Golden Hill, and brother Joseph Hughes of Cambridge; four grandsons, Brian Hughes, David Hughes, Leon Lewis Jr. and Levin Lewis Sr.; great grandsons Levy Lewis Jr. and Luke Brian Hughes.

Preceding him in death was a brother Irving Jones.

Serving as pallbearers will be Leon Lewis Jr., Levin Lewis Sr., Brian Hughes, David Hughes, Gary Hughes and David VanSchiek.

Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Lewis and Mickey Ausmussen.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 beginning 2 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. Family will receive friends 2 hours prior to service. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Officiating will be Pastor George Ames and Steve Bloodsworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Herbert may be sent to Wesley Chapel Church, c/o Priscilla Andrews 309 Crusader Rd. Apt. 4 , Cambridge Maryland.
