Howard K. Keyes died on Saturday August 2, 2014 at Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, MD. He was 90 years old.
Born August 19, 1923 in Cambridge, MD, he was the youngest of seven children born to John C. Keyes and Edith Mills Keyes. After attending local schools he served three years in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He spent 33 months in the South Pacific operating landing craft and small boats. In 1948 he married Helen E. Schulke.
He worked for Cutler-Hammer, a Division of Eaton Corp., in Baltimore for 32 years before retiring in 1984 and again living in Cambridge, MD. He was an active member of the VFW Post #7460, Cambridge, MD and a most active fisherman for rock fish and perch in the Choptank River.
He is survived by his wife Helen S. Keyes and son Theodore R. Keyes and his wife, Linda A. Keyes. He also has several nieces and nephews including two very close ones, Sydney S. Keyes and Donald H. Keyes and one very close fishing partner, David Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his four brothers; Travers T. Keyes, John W. Keyes, Clarence Keyes, S. Stokes Keyes and his two sisters Anne K. Grasmick and Edith Keyes Riggins.
A viewing for friends and family will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD between 6:00 and 8:00 PM
A funeral service will be conducted at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home beginning 12:30 PM Friday, August 8, 2014. The family will also receive friends the hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Kevin Graudin.
Burial will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah. Committal service will be held in the Cemetery Chapel at 2:00 PM with military honors.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sydney Keyes, Kevin Keyes, Donald Keyes, Mark Keyes, David Keyes and James Keyes. Honorary pallbearers are David Lewis and David Marshall.
