Ida M. Lankford, age 73, of Church Creek, MD, died on Friday morning, December 5, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital.
Born on September 16, 1935 in Xenia, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Court and Grace Elizabeth Jones Draper.
Miss Ida loved to play bingo, cards, yatzee, making quilts, attending cook-outs, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She retired after eighteen years of employment as a certified nurses aid.
On November 8, 1952 she married Herman Earl Lankford. He died on July 31, 1991.
Mrs. Lankford is survived by two daughters Helen McGrath of Federalsburg, MD, Earlene Sue Lankford Hughes of Church Creek, MD; a son David Lankford and his wife Sharon of Trappe, MD; son-in-law John Mowbray of Church Creek, MD whom he considered Miss Ida as his own mother; two sisters Dixie Lopez and her husband Louis, Rosie Draper; two brothers Sam and Brad Draper, all of Illinois; five grandchildren Jessica and David Thomas of Cabin Creek, MD, Mike Hodges of Denver, CO, Wayne Taylor, Jr. of Federalsburg, MD, Scotty Wright of Illinois and a very special granddaughter Ashley Lyn Mowbray whom her grandmother lived and was a caregiver; two great-grandchildren Hailey and Savannah Hurt; two step-grandchildren Lance and Cherish Lankford.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was one daughter Angela Lankford, a grandson Donald Wright, a sister Eldena Draper and four brothers Glen, Charles L., Delbert and Ezra Draper.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10th at 11 a.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge, where the family received friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service was The Rev. Joseph Kelly. Inurnment will be held privately.
