J. Kenneth Barwick, Jr.

J. Kenneth Barwick, Jr., 81, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at his home.  

 

Born in Easton, Maryland on December 22, 1941, he was the son of the late J. Kenneth Barwick, Sr. and Kathryn Fluharty Barwick.

 

Ken attended the local schools in Talbot County and graduated from Easton High School with the class of 1961.

 

On June 29, 1974 he married the former Sandra Sawyer and they made their home in Cambridge. 

 

In Ken’s younger years he worked for Connelly Containers and also in construction.  He worked on the water crabbing, tonging, fishing and diving for oysters.  He had a workboat built by Robert Miller of Hoopers Island named “The Mrs Sandy B”. He later worked for Muff Evans and Sam LeCompte at the Recreation Center (Pool Hall) in Cambridge for many years and then was appointed manager until it closed.  They were known to have the best hotdogs in the county.  After retiring he helped out in the kitchen at Countryside Christian School where he was affectionately known as the “Lunch Lady”.

 

He was a member of the Gateway Church of Christ in Mardela.  He also belonged to the hunting club, crabbing and fishing club(MSSA) and paintball club.  He enjoyed golfing, antiquing, playing on the pool and bowling league. He liked to try new things such as skateboarding.  Ken will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

 

Ken is survived by his wife Sandra; his children Shelia Thompson (Doug), John Barwick (Grace) and Sandy Waller (Harvey); grandchildren Jamie Tolley, Brian Gilman, Savannah Barwick and Remington Barwick; great grandchildren Chris Stivers, Nate Stivers, Brooke Gilman, Kinsley Gilman and Aubree Schaffers;  brother Tom Barwick (Betty); cousins Wanda Prothero, Gwen Smith and Faye Colliero (Stan) and many nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son J. Kenneth Barwick, III; brother John Barwick; granddaughter Jennifer Tolley and great grandson Kaleb Lednum.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 beginning 11 am at Gateway Church of Christ, 25845 Ocean Gateway, Mardela, MD 21837.  Officiating will be Pastor’s John Herbst and Phil Sutton.
