James “Jim” Gibb, 81, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at UMSMC @ Easton.
Born on September 4, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late James Gibb and Rose Anne Ross Gibb.
Jim attended schools in New York and graduated with the Class of 1960. He continued his education with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Hofstra University in 1965. He went on to receive his Masters from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1972 then received his Doctorate (PhD) from University of Maryland in 1984.
On November 19, 1965, Jim was commissioned by the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on December 23, 1968. During his assignment he was stationed in Swabisch Gmund, Germany as a signal officer (radio operations/telecommunication). His ranks moved quickly from 2nd Lt. to 1st Lt in one year and then promoted to Captain one year later. Jim loved his country and was known to be very patriotic.
Jim was a teacher and administrator in the Public School System from 1968 to 1994. After retiring from the school system, Jim started a Home Improvement and Lawn Care Business called CrossBeams along with his step-son Ernie.
On July 4, 2004, Jim married Paula Marie Ruark Beath, daughter of the late Paul and Ellen Ruark and remained married until her death on May 12, 2012.
Surviving Jim is his step-son Ernest Ballard Beath, III and his wife Jennifer of Cambridge, MD; step-grandchildren Willow and Ivy Beath: his companion Lucy Willey and her family; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Teena and Wayne Gorrow and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 beginning 1:00 pm at Grace United Methodist Church, Cambridge with Johnny Herbst officiating. A viewing will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Dorchester Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ernest Ballard Beath, III, Ernest Ballard Beath, II, Wayne Gorrow, Dave Russ and Myles Frazier.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s name can be sent to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 815, Cambridge, MD 21613 or a Veterans Clinic near you.
