James E. Sampson, Jr. of Cambridge, MD, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015 after a prolonged illness.
Born in Linwood, PA in 1933, he was the son of the late James and Hilda Sampson of Trainer, PA.
Jim lived a very full life, especially enjoying a variety of sports, both as spectator and participant. The highlight of his later years was sailing on the Chesapeake Bay with family and friends, while living and working in North Wilmington. Following retirement from the DuPont Experimental Station in 1992, a dream fulfilled was living aboard and sailing to the Bahamas on his beloved "Endless Summer". He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving is his wife of 58 yrs, Virginia; son James III and wife Elaine of Townsend, DE, son Gary of St. Michaels, MD; sister Dorothy Sitaris of North Palm Beach, FL; half-brother Joseph Keenan and wife Teresa of Swedesboro, N.J.; brother-in-law James Hicks and wife Joan of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren James E Sampson IV of Arlington, VA, Wesley Sampson of Bethesda, MD and Breeanna Sampson of Valley Forge, PA.
A private service was held in Cambridge.
