Joanna Lyn Phillips Richards, age 45, of Mt. Wolf, PA, died early Friday morning, September 24, 2010 at her parents' home at Fishing Creek, MD.

Born August 5, 1965 in Cambridge, Maryland, she was the daughter of Russell Calvin “Sonny” Phillips, Sr. and Judith “Judy”Ann Gadow Phillips, both of Fishing Creek, MD.

Joanna was raised at Fishing Creek, MD and had attended Cambridge South Dorchester High School.

She was a member of Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, Fishing Creek.

Joanna was crowned Miss Outdoors 1971, a beauty pageant part of the National Outdoor Show which salutes Dorchester County’s outdoorsman and fur trappers.

Joanna loved working with horses and had been a horse trainer. She had been employed by Datum Filing Systems in Emmingsville, PA.

Her hobbies were reading, jigsaw puzzles, flower gardening, deer hunting, fishing, nature and tending to her bird feeders. Joanna even had her own Harley Davidson motorcycle and enjoyed riding it until her illness progressed. She loved her family and always looked forward to being with her grandsons.

Surviving besides her parents is her companion, Harry “Butch” Tyson, Jr. of Mt. Wolf, PA; three children Nikki Tyson and her husband Matthew also of Mt. Wolf, PA, Derek Staub and his fiancé Lonnie Brittingham of Hoopersville, MD and Cody Staub of Mt. Wolf, PA; a brother Russell Calvin “Rusty” Phillips, Jr. and his wife Valerie of Hurlock, MD; two grandchildren Ryn Tyson and Keon Tyson; two nieces Olivia Phillips and Gracie Phillips; a nephew Zachary Phillips; cousins; and friends.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday October 2nd at Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Doug Ridley, Pastor, and The Rev. Joseph Kelly. Inurnment will be private.
