JOHN B. BROWN, SR.
John B. Brown, Sr., age 90, of Cambridge, MD, died on Wednesday afternoon, December 5, 2007 at his home.
Born in Frostburg, MD on July 24, 1917 he was the son of the late Joseph F. Brown and Ann Byrnes Brown.
John attended St. Michaels Parochial School from grades 1-8 and was a graduate of Beall High School, Class of 1935. He attended Eastern College of Commerce and Law, and received a degree in Accounting.
His working career began at the Celanese Company of America as a chemical assistant.
On May 17, 1944 he married the former Betty Jane Parker. Mrs. Brown died on August 10, 1994.
Mr. Brown was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country from April 19, 1945 until July 27, 1946. He served at several bases as an Administrative NCO and was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant.
After the war, his family moved to Baltimore where he went to work as an Investigator for the Maryland State Accident Fund from which he transferred to the Maryland State Health Department as an Accountant. He then moved to Henryton State Hospital as Business Manager for after eighteen years. He then transferred to the Eastern Shore State Hospital as Assistant Superintendent and retired in 1978.
John was a member of Dorchester Post #91 American Legion and Cambridge Elks Lodge#1272. He was a communicant of St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge. He enjoyed playing golf and attending professional and amateur sports.
Surviving are five children Patricia O’Shea and her husband Neal of Easton, MD; John B. Brown, Jr. and his wife Janet Nebel of Severna Park, MD; Kathleen “Katie” Dickerson and her husband Dave of Punta Gorda, FL; Blaise J. Brown and his wife Patricia of East New Market, MD; and Mary Louise Wisch and her husband Brent of Media, PA. John is also survived by a brother Joseph F. Brown of Myersville, MD, fourteen grand-children and ten great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and wife and his sister Mary Elizabeth Lindsay.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 9th at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 10th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Glasgow Street and Hambrooks Blvd., Cambridge. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. William J. Lawler Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers will be Blaise Brown, John Brown, Jr., Matthew O’Shea, Paul Brown, Neal O'Shea and Brent Wisch.
