Kenneth Allen Rickard Sr., age 75, of Cambridge, MD, died late Wednesday night, August 19, 2009 at Mallard Bay Care Center.
Born on April 3, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Henry Kemper Rickard and Ida Emily Richmond Rickard.
A long-time resident of Corpus Christi, Ken was an employee for the City of Corpus Christi, working in the Signs and Marketing Division. Ken was active in his community as charter member of the Laguna Optimists Club in Corpus Christi and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Prior to living in Corpus Christi, Kenneth was a resident of Colorado Springs, where he graduated high school and worked as a cartographer for the city of Colorado Springs. Kenneth was an avid horseman and owned a ranch in Colorado.
Mr. Rickard was very civic minded and remained active to support various causes until he suffered from a stroke.
On September 26, 1994 he married the former Alva “Petie” McGlaughlin.
Mr. Rickard attended Countryside Christian Church, Cambridge, MD.
Surviving is his wife Alva “Petie” Rickard of Cambridge; two sons Kenneth Allen Rickard and his wife Janice of Yutan, Nebraska, Keith Andrew Rickard and his wife Sara of Colorado Springs, CO from the union of his first wife Carolyn Rickard, also of Colorado Springs, CO; a step-son Randy McGlaughlin and his wife Jamie of Cambridge; a granddaughter Katherine Rickard; a step-daughter-in-law Jacquelyn “Jackie” Aaron McGlaughlin of Fishing Creek, MD; five step-grandchildren Scott McGlaughlin and his wife Heather, Shane McGlaughlin, Jodi Hughes and her husband Chuck, Candace Edwards and her husband David, Stacey Dodson and her husband Duane; and several step-great-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a step-son R. Michael “Mike” McGlaughlin.
A memorial service will be held at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. on Monday evening, August 24th at 7 p.m., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Evangelist Phil Sutton. Inurnment will be held at later date in Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mr. Rickard’s memory to Countryside Christian Church, 5333 Austin Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613.
