Kimberly Marie "Kim" Shilow, 62, of East New Market, Maryland passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at Talbot Hospice in Easton. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 19, 1961, she was the daughter of Frank Shilow and Joann Colein Gumpman.
Kim attended the local schools in Dorchester County and graduated from NDHS with the class of 1979. After graduation, she was employed with Solo Cup in Federalsburg for a short period of time. She was then employed with Eastern Shore Correctional Institute (ECI) as a correctional officer. Kim worked at ECI for many years until she was injured on the job and had to take an early retirement. Kim and her mother started a cleaning service together and worked alongside each other until her health forced her into a second retirement. She was also a fantastic cook and baker, crafting beautiful cakes for special occasions such as weddings and birthdays.
Kim was an avid Orioles fan, and also a fan of her grandson, Kashton. She proudly sported the #1 to support her boy and attended as many of his baseball games as she could to cheer him on. Her annual trips to Camden Yards with her son also became a tradition for Kim and Kashton and those memories will be treasured forever.
Kim looked forward to every summer staying at the Coconut Mallory in Ocean City where she enjoyed the sun, the sand and cruising in her convertible. She loved to have a good time with her family and friends. For some people, their lives are spent sweating the small things; for Kim, it was spent enjoying them. She was many things to many people. Kim was her mother's daughter, her son's first love, her grandson's biggest fan, and her sister's friend. She was also an expert Hallmark card gifter, guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye and lovingly signing each card with, "I love you more." Kim will be missed immensely.
Surviving Kim besides her parents, is son Justin Kraig Thomas and his wife Bethany of Hurlock, MD; grandson Kashton Cole Thomas; step-granddaughter Makenzie; sisters Colein Hall and her husband, Tom, Lisa Shilow Norris; brother Dwayne Abt and his wife, Kathy; several nieces and nephews; special friends Donna Era, Tracy Tawes, Cindy Sheppard, Janet and Tom Long; and her beloved furbaby, Bella.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. at the American Legion, Post #43, 57 Legion Drive, Hurlock, MD.
