KIMMETT TOPFER

Kimmett Topfer, age 93, formerly of Baltimore and Hoopers Island, MD, died Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011 at Gilchrist Center, Towson, MD.

Born on April 26, 1918 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John Topfer and Racy Kimmett Topfer.

On August 3, 1940 he married the former Marie Elizabeth Uttenreither of Baltimore. She died on March 2, 1988.

Mr. Topfer served his country in the United States Army and had lived in Japan, France and various states of the U.S. In 1960 he retired with the rank of Major. When he moved back to Baltimore he worked for the State of Maryland Civil Defense Agency as the Civil Defense Coordinator.

He and his wife moved to Hooper’s Island in 1975 where they enjoyed many happy years there and made several friends.

Mr. Topfer had been a communicant of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church in Golden Hill.

After his wife’s death, he spent his summers in Ocean City and winters in Baltimore. His last years were spent at Brightview Senior Living in Catonsville, MD.

Surviving is a son Michael Kimmett Topfer of Baltimore, MD; a daughter Vietta Marie “Vie” Parsons and her husband Mike of Key West, FL; former daughter-in-law Johanna Topfer and her lifelong companion Thomas Fisher; two grandchildren Mark Bernard Topfer and Jessica Marie Topfer; nephew John Topfer, Jr. and his wife Beverly; great-nephews Jonathan Topfer and his wife Jody, Nicholas Topfer and his wife Colette; great-great nephews Seth Topfer, Reece Topfer and Chase Topfer; and cousin James Kimmett.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife was a brother John Topfer, Sr.; and longtime companion Elfriede Sunder.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday, June 23rd at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. William J. Lawler, Rector of St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD with Military Honors.
