Levin Insley Willey, 82, of Linkwood, Maryland passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Salisbury.
Born in Buttons Neck on September 17, 1942 he was the son of the late Robert W. Willey, Sr. and Lena Rebecca Fitzhugh Willey.
Levin attended the local schools and graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1960.
On October 4, 1960 he joined the U.S. Marine Corp to serve his country. He was honorably discharged on October 2, 1964.
He married the former Flora “Diane” Miller on November 9, 1979 and was happily married for over 44 years. Together they raised one son. Diane died on May 1, 2024.
Levin worked with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in marine construction for over 20 years. He was a member of the Talbot County Chapter of Maryland Ornithological Society, volunteered at Blackwater Refuge and enjoyed going on and leading bird walks. He also enjoyed traveling to go on birding trips to Western Maryland and other states.
Levin and his wife Diane enjoyed bird watching and traveled to Delaware and Virginia to find all types of birds. He loved to gather nature and share with his son and later years with his grandson. Levin was an avid reader and his favorite author was Henry David Thoreau. He was a very compassionate person when it came to taking care of loved ones, being the main caregiver for his parents and also for his wife.
Levin is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ryan and Lilia Willey; grandson Sean Willey; a brother Eldridge Willey; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death beside his parents and wife was a sister Betsy Willey and a brother Robert W. Willey, Jr(Bobby).
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, Cambridge beginning 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Joe Kelly officiating. A viewing will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock with military honors.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Willey, Sean Willey, Robert (Rob) Willey III, Tyler Henry, Howard Patchett, and Scott Aaron.
