Lula Meade Travis

Lula M. Travis, 93, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge.

She was born April 20, 1930 on Hoopers Island to the late Lee Lehman Travers, Sr. and Sally Mae Lewis Travers.

In June 1946, Lula married her sweetheart Samuel Buck Travis and together raised 7 children. She worked on the water with her husband and later picked crabs in several picking houses on the island.  Mr. Travis passed away in 1997.

Lula loved living on Hoopers Island in what was considered the “home place”, until one of the hurricanes destroyed her home.  She was heartbroken but moved on and made her new home in Cambridge.

When it came to cooking and baking, Lula was one of the best.  Her door was always open to family and friends to come and enjoy all the home cooking she prepared.

In the spring and summer you could always find her in the yard tending to her flowers.  Sitting on her porch was a favorite pastime, waving to people as they rode by her house. If Lula heard of anyone needing help of any sort, she would be the first to offer a helping hand.  She enjoyed attending the Mac Center and all they offered.  Lula’s family was most important to her, she will be dearly missed by them and her friends.

She is survived by her children Racheal A. Wilcox and her husband Donnie, who was like a 5th son to her of East New MarketSally Travis of Cambridge and stepson Samuel W.
