Lydia Ruark

Fishing Creek- Lydia Marguerite Ruark- “Margie” 88, of Fishing Creek went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2015 with her family by her side. She was staying at Mallard Bay in Cambridge for rehab following a short illness.
Born September 13, 1926 on Hooper’s Island, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Barrett Parks and Agnes North Parks.
Mrs. Ruark graduated from Hooper’s Island high school, class of 1944. On Feb. 28, 1946 she married the late Roy A. Ruark after his years of service in WWII. Mrs. Ruark was a president of the ladies group and a Sunday school teacher at the Hoosier Memorial Church in Hooper’s Island for many years where she had many beloved friends. She was a faithful member of the Countryside Christian Church in Cambridge where she was loved dearly. Always hardworking, she was a Tupperware district manager and worked in crab factories on the island as a crabmeat processor as well as with her friends Bryce & Shirley Phillips at their Seafood Restaurant in Ocean City. She was an excellent cook and loved sharing her food and recipes with her friends and family. She was a blessing to many on the island, she would regularly visit the elderly, sick, and less fortunate and bring them home cooked meals and sit and talk with them. She would often serve during events at the Hooper's Island firehouse. In 1993 She was awarded the “Maryland You Are Beautiful” volunteer of the year for Dorchester County, presented by the then Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer. Mrs. Ruark was a lover of people, many regarded her as an adopted “Nana”. She loved the natural beauty and wildlife of the eastern shore and enjoyed watching the ducks, geese and swan from her bedroom window overlooking Fishing Creek.
Surviving are two sons, Gary Roy Ruark of Fishing Creek, and Glenn Parks Ruark and his wife Connie of Cambridge; four grandchildren Gary Scott Ruark and his wife Tracy, Wendy Dawn Usilton and her husband Vernon, Aaron Glenn Ruark and his wife Emily, and Adam Glenn Ruark; two great-grandchildren Kobi Barrett Ruark, and Jaxson Barrett Usilton; a sister in-law Iris Ruark Johnstone and her husband Art, nephews Billy and Jerry Tolley, nieces Bonnie Parker, and Betty Smith and her husband Bruce; and great nieces and nephews Eric Wheatley, Christal Weymouth, Monica Wheatley Johnson, Jake Johnstone, Jeremy Smith, and Julia Asquith; a special caregiver Tammy Shockley, and many, many, friends.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a brother Wendell Tolley.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday Feb. 8, at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home P.A. in Cambridge. Funeral Services will be held at noon Monday, Feb 9, at Countryside Christian Church in Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Evangelist David Bennett. Assisting at the service will be Evangelist John McArthur. Burial will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Scott Ruark, Aaron Ruark, Adam Ruark, Kobi Ruark, Vernon Usilton, and Randy McGlaughlin. Honorary pall bearers will be Jaxson Usilton, Mark Hurley, Calvin Travers and Alan Ruark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mrs. Ruark’s memory to Countryside Christian Church, 5333 Austin Road, Cambridge, MD 21613; or to the Hooper’s Island Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 125, Fishing Creek, MD 21634
