Biography
Mary Ellen “Eileen” Fitzhugh, age 48, of Frankford, DE, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE.
Born on April 10, 1961 in San Francisco, CA, she was the daughter of Mary Nolan O’Connell of Glen Burnie, MD and the late William O’Connell. Eileen’s father was in the airline industry and after she was born, the family returned to Maryland’s Western Shore.
Eileen’s family would spend weekends visiting friends who lived in Cambridge’s Neck District area and later decided to move there permanently in 1985.
Eileen was attended Chesapeake High School, Anne Arundel County, MD and had also attended Delaware Tech College.
On December 13, 1991 Eileen married David Edward Fitzhugh of Cambridge, MD.
Eileen had been the assistant manager at Wawa in Ocean City, MD. She had also been a master barber and hairdresser.
Eileen’s greatest joys were being with her family and friends.
Eileen was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Bethany Beach, DE where she had also volunteered in teaching the CCD classes.
Surviving besides her mother and husband are two children William John Fitzhugh and Caitlin Marie Fitzhugh, both of Frankford, DE; two step-children D.J. Fitzhugh of Cambridge, MD and Brandon Fitzhugh of Church Creek, MD: four siblings Sheila Smith and her husband Robert of Pennsylvania, Margaret Mullinix and her husband Steve of Millersville, MD, William “Billy” O’Connell and his wife Amanda of Cambridge, MD, Kathleen Sanchez and her husband Ariel of Glen Burnie, MD; a granddaughter Emily Rose Fitzhugh; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5th at St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Glasgow and Hambrooks Blvd., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Fitzhugh, Robert Smith, Ariel Sanchez, Steve Mullinix, Christopher Smith, John Smith, William Fitzhugh and Frank Hurley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Eileen’s memory to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19947.
