Mary F. "Marynan" Spear, 82, of Vienna, Maryland passed away Friday morning, September 18, 2015 at home with her loving family by her side.
Born July 9, 1933 in York, PA she was a daughter of the late Mary Thompson and Walton Rufus Phillips.
She attended the local schools and graduated from Vienna High School.
On November 24, 1951 she married Gene C. Spear and together raised 4 beautiful children.
Marynan was employed at Dorchester General Hospital for many years as a payroll clerk.
She was a lifetime member of Vienna United Methodist Church, Methodist Women Ladies Auxiliary, Vienna Homemakers, Vienna Heritage Foundation, Vienna Vol. Fire Co. and was very proud of becoming an EMT. She also served as a Girl Scout troop leader.
After retirement Marynan enjoyed traveling, cooking, working in her flower garden and being involved in the community, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to gather at the farm as often as they could, in her eyes, "the more the merrier". She will surely be missed by her family and many friends.
Surviving her besides her husband Gene are daughters Cindy McFarlane and husband Jimmy, Christy Helgason and husband Hilmar , Carla Spear and fiancé Teddy Bryant; daughter-in-law Charlene Spear; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters Lois Baumgartner and Sally Weber.
Preceding her in death besides her parents was a son, Gene C. "Corky" Spear, Jr. and great grandson Crew Nicholas Helgason.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 beginning 1 p.m. at Vienna United Methodist Church, Vienna, MD with Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Chapel of Ease Cemetery, Vienna, MD.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 - 1:00 at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Marynan’s grandsons, Gene C. Spear III, Billy Dennis, Jamie McFarlane, Bobby Helgason, Nick Helgason, Hunter Gebert, Tyler D'Asaro and Bill Dennis.
