Melanie Brannock

Melanie Malkus Brannock, 67, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at UMSMC at Easton.
Born on May 1, 1949 in Cambridge, she was a daughter of the late Ann Reid Hurley and Theodore E. "Ted" Malkus.
Melanie attended the local schools and graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1967. She was then married to Barry L. Smith and maintained a lifelong special relationship with him. Melanie was later accepted into the nursing program at McQueen Gibbs Nursing School and successfully completed her LPN.
On April 9, 1977 she married Charles Robert "Bob" Brannock and they were married for 37 years. Bob died July 22, 2014.
Before retiring, Melanie worked as an Administrative Assistant for the County Court System. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Quota Club and as a young child she took great pride as being a member of the 4H Club.
Melanie was an avid- reader, she loved to cook and was known to be a "great cook". Going to the local dairy queen and getting her "old fashioned DQ coke" was a highlight in her life. She enjoyed traveling and most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Melanie was loved by all who knew her as a soft spoken "Lady of Class". She will truly be missed by all.
Surviving her are daughters Mindy Smith, Shay Smith and Leeanne Young (John); sisters Debi M. Book (Jay) and Candy R. Elzey; brothers Patrick W. Malkus (Lisa) and Michael D. Elzey (Charlotte); grandchildren Jerry, Shawn and Ethan Carmine, Brooke Miller, Ashley, John Lee and Ian Young; three great grandchildren; step-father Allen Hurley and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a sister Carol Prahl and step-mother Anne Malkus.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 5401 Whitehall Road, Cambridge, Maryland beginning 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Dale Krotee officiating. Burial will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard, Church Creek. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.
